What makes an outstanding instructor? Having a rich career history and a passion for guiding your students to success! We feel our Lisa Smoot fits that bill!

Upon beginning her real estate career and obtaining her sales persons license (nka brokers license) in 1989, Lisa decided to get her broker’s license (nka managing brokers license) in 1993. She fast tracked to managing a small office in 1994 and subsequently owned her own brokerage in 1996. Recognizing her interest to teach and mentor new licensees, Lisa acquired her pre-license instructor's license in 1998.

In 1999 Lisa decided to expand her career and obtained her continuing education instructors license. Over the years, Ms. Smoot has successfully taught classes for National Academy of Real Estate, Lincolnland Community College and the Illinois Realtors®.

While Lisa conducted pre-license and continuing ed classes, she continued to stay active in real estate brokerage. In 2001 she purchased a franchise brokerage which opened many doors for her. Soon thereafter, Lisa was introduced to a brokerage in the Edwardsville market that was looking for an instructor to establish a pre-license school.  That career move was a fulfilling one. After getting that school opened and developing their curriculum, Lisa progressed into the role of that company’s Managing Broker in 2004 and retired her own brokerage.

Doors continued to open for Lisa in 2011 when she moved to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Elite Properties (fka Prudential One Realty Centre). It was then that she started AREA Academy, not as an independent school, but as a branch of Illinois Realtors®. The experiences Lisa has gained over the years by being a broker owner as well as a Managing Broker of two large offices are in part what makes Lisa such a well-rounded instructor.

Lisa recently reflected on the joys she’s experienced as an instructor, stating “It is so gratifying to see my past students continue to thrive in our industry. It’s also fun to have my past pre-license students come back to my continuing education classes. What a compliment that they desire to come to the AREA Academy for that coursework”.
